HOME AND FAMILY

A Question of Balance

Posted: Wednesday 1st August 2007 09:55

Feng Shui pronounced (fung shway) means "wind and water". In the literal sense it refers to the topography of the earth: its mountains, valleys, and waterways.

To the people of Chinese origin, Feng Shui denotes a combination of ancient wisdom and practise. This knowledge gives many guidelines to live a more balanced, harmonious and prosperous life.
In the family home, good Feng Shui can create harmonious relationships, foster good health, and attract abundance. It can bring good luck to the breadwinners, build solid reputations, and strengthen family. In business, good Feng Shui creates opportunities for growth, elevates prestige in the community, attracts customers, and raises profits. It can develop good loyal working relationships.
Feng Shui advocates living in harmony with the earth's environment and energy lines thus creating a balance between the forces of nature.

Feng Shui contends that the environment is full of powerful, but invisible, energy known as Ch'i pronounced (chee). All things in the physical world are endowed with the living energy known as Ch'i. When our personal responses blend harmoniously with the things around us, we feel a deep sense of harmony, comfort, and safety. Obviously, when we look around and see everything surrounding us as being 'alive', it becomes vastly important to live with things we feel good about. Feng Shui introduces ways of arranging the home/office so that you will achieve harmony and balance.
The Ch'i in everything is constantly changing. Growth and movement produce change and are the dynamic signs of vital, living Ch'i. We witness change everywhere we look - the seasons, our communities, our bodies, our states of mind, and our emotions. Therefore, our environments are not only alive and connected with their greater surroundings, they are also constantly changing. Change is an integral part of life and can be used to your advantage.
Alive, connected, and dynamic... Feng Shui views your home or workplace as a living entity that you are either in harmony with or in discordant partnership with. When you honour its aliveness, recognize its vital connection with the quality of your entire life, and make the changes that keep it fresh and alive, it remains a delightful place to be. It nurtures, protects, and supports your growth and movement through life.

In this living, interconnected, world of Ch'i, you can continually choose to surround yourself with the Ch'i that supports and nourishes your life. You have probably noticed that not just any Ch’i does this. Imagine eating your lunch in a crowded, windowless room that's too chilly, sitting on a hard chair pulled up to a table piled with papers and dirty dishes. Now, imagine eating the same lunch in a warm and spacious room with a nice view, seated in a comfortable chair at a table appointed with a candle and colourful flower arrangement. Which room has the Ch'i in which you'd like to spend your time?
Most of us have a large appetite for the Ch'i inherent beauty, comfort, and safety. Our culture is riddled with 'putting up with' on a daily basis - working or living in unaesthic, uncomfortable, and unsafe environments. Many of us do not realize how our environment can negatively impact on our lives.
Feng Shui is about connectedness, not separation. Everything is alive, connected and changing all the time. Your intuition will tell you that an office with a low ceiling, buzzing florescent light, and a cramped desk backed into a wall will impact every aspect of your life. What to do in this case? Feng Shui says to do everything in your power to turn this office space into a spacious work area facing the door, with proper lighting, and a fabulous chair. Balance and direct the Ch’i to achieve dynamic harmony - that is the purpose of Feng Shui.
Feng Shui opens a whole new world of seeing, listening to, and knowing about your environment. When you 'see' how the Ch'i moves through an area, 'listen' to what it is saying, and 'know' how to balance and improve its quality, your Feng Shui eyes are open! You are free to create your own personal paradise - a place where you are surrounded by the environmental affirmations of your choosing in the form of light, colour, patterns, nature objects, art, music, and furniture. It can be your place of peace.
No one solution lasts forever. What does last for all time is the dance between you and your environment - a dance that can continually bring great joy, opportunity, and prosperity into your life.
Let Feng Shui be your guide......
